Cloth in the Kitchen

One phrase you’ll probably notice I use a lot when it comes to sharing ‘advice’ is “it’s not all or nothing”.  Going green or becoming more eco-friendly is one of those such things, where some people believe it’s an all or nothing situation and you must be a tree hugging crunchy hippy mama who wears flowers in her hair and is always barefoot.  Anyone can go green by making simple little changes over time.  Each year I usually pick one or two things to add to our ‘Green Goals’, this year it was using more cloth in the kitchen. Towards the end of last year, I started becoming alarmed at the rate my family and I were blowing through paper towels and sanitizer wipes.  It seemed like we were going through a roll of each a week!

To help us reach our goals this year we are working on using cloth napkins for hands and faces at meals instead of paper towels.  We also use cloth sanitizer wipes (really they are rags, but how fancy does ‘rags sounds??) with a delicious smelling formula for wiping down the tables and counters after meals.

I store them in glass canisters (like these) since I use essential oils in my cleaning formula.  You can fold or roll them nicely so they pop up like store bought wipes, but ain’t nobody got time for that here.

Sanitizer Wipe Formula

2 Cups warm water
1 Tablespoon dish soap
4 Tablespoons white vinegar
10 drops of lemon essential oil

Mix them all together gently and pour over your cloth rags

Remember going green is NOT an all or nothing gig!

Tell us what you do to go green!
